Fish belonging to the family of tuna

The Palamita del mare di Toscana is a fish belonging to the family of tuna and mackerel which, moreover, also resembles in appearance. Her fishing area corresponds to the whole Arcipelago Toscano  and, in particular, on Capo Enfola, near Portoferraio.

 

Easily recognizable thanks to blackish streaks and oblique, its body is elongated and spindle-shaped up to 80 centimeters long, the ball wide with sharp teeth and sharp and round eyes.

 

Its meat, with strong nutritional properties, has a strong taste and slightly acidic, which is expressed perfectly in many different ways of cooking. Tradition has it that is consumed in oil, Bay leaves, pepper and chilli.

 

Victim of overfishing sea fish toscano, has become a Slow Food Presidio to stimulate a return to traditional fishing and enhance its excellent quality.
