SASSICAIA

One of the most prestigious Italian wines

The greatest creations arise from simple experiments, and this is how it was born one of the most prestigious wines in the world, the Sassicaia.

We are in the '20 and a young student of Pisa, Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, wants to turn his dream into reality by creating a wine similar to notoriety at Bordeaux. Thus begins to grow Cabernet in Tenuta San Guido in Maremma, an area that had a plot with morphological characteristics similar to those in France.

From 1948 to 1967 Sassicaia is consumed solely within the estate. Soon the Marquis realizes that his wine was aging, more was better. The first vintage sold was that of 1968 and was an instant success. Royal wine from Ruby Red intense, is characterized by having an elegant smell with hints of berries and a harmonious long and persistent finish on the palate; He married the game and generally with food a distinctive flavour.

The wines that belong to the denomination Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC obtained in 1994 are based on 80% Cabernet Sauvignon. Sassicaia holds the record for being the first Italian wine of a specific Winery to have a DOC specially reserved; may be made exclusively by the company Tenuta San Guido who owns all the vineyards within the DOC area of Costa degli Etruschi.
