Maggio Maremmano

Songs and parties waiting for spring

Maggio is a classic tradition of Tuscan Maremma. For the entire month in this beautiful area you sings with joy the arrival of warm weather.

A very ancient custom, the origin of which is impossible to find one another, provides that every year you celebrate with pride, with music and dancing, the beginning of the harvest season thrives. It is said that many years ago the Maggerini Maremma, historical musicians, went to every home and in every country to wish with the Canto del Maggio the best and rich spring harvest to each farmer. Today, for twenty years, from Roccastrada in San Rocchino Braccagni is celebrated with great enthusiasm and colourful event linked to Maggerini, street performers.

During the night of 30 April each year matches then may, ahead of the following day. The Festival continues tomorrow with pageants and popular ballads. Local storyteller and ordinary citizens bring to life one of the most ancient Maremma events due to their friendliness and generosity. A pretext to taste the typical products of the territory in the banquets prepared during the feast day.
