Zingana between Arno and Sieve

Acting and interpretation in the Tuscan countryside

The Zingana between Arno and Sieve is a theatrical ritual tradition called "Zingana" or "Zinganetta". The Zingana, typical of lower Val di Sieve, is similar to other Tuscan traditions such as Maggi and contrasts.

This tradition saw the recitation and interpretation of poems popular or rural comedies in the Tuscan countryside. The Zingana told the country life and places of the region, its many characters: the old, the doctor, the Gypsy, the servant.

One of the most famous examples is the Zinganaof San Piero a Strada that since '60 with their group put on stage the text Zingana, published by Giovanni Battista Fagiuoli.
