Roccastrada

TERRACE OVERLOOKING THE MAREMMA

The municipality of Roccastrada lies between the plain of Grosseto and Colline Metallifere. The origins of the village date back to the middle ages as a possession of the Aldobrandeschi family. During the 14th century it was conquered by the Senesi, Roccastrada began the exploitation of copper and silver mines of the area, until the sixteenth century when the municipality, after the fall of the Republic of Siena, was incorporated into the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.

Roccastrada is among the seven municipalities that are part of the Parco Tecnologico e Archeologico delle Colline, born for environmental and technical and scientific heritage of Colline Metallifere.

 

Traditions and typical products

In some villages of Roccastrada still plays a game of Graeco-Roman origin, Gioco della Palla 21 or Palla eh. Possible ancestor of tennis, because he played in ' 500 with racquets, has very precise rules and structured with teams of 5 players. A game that combines sports, popular culture and attachment to their local identity.
