Feste del Valdarno in Valdarno

Ancient origins, related to Catholicism

The Festa del Perdono has ancient origins and is linked to Catholicism. Is celebrated in many villages located between Florence and Arezzo and has its main centres in the Valdarno. There are municipalities that are the most important holiday of the year including: Montevarchi, San Giovanni Valdarno, Terranuova Bracciolini, Bucine, Cavriglia, Pian di Scò and Figline Valdarno.

The origins can be traced back to medieval times, when over 1300 the Lords of each district with violent actions claimed its authority. In contrast to this violence was to form a group of pacifists called 'Penitents'. These passed through the city streets to spread peace, love and forgiveness. Today their exploits are retraced every year celebrating the feast of pardon in Valdarno in September.

These holidays are an opportunity to make the excellence of the territory: from the wine, food, agriculture, art.

For those unfamiliar with Tuscany, parties of forgiveness is the perfect opportunity to discover ancient traditions and customs and browse through the many peculiarities of the villages.

In each party's exalted a particular aspect, such as in Montevarchi you can take part in the game medieval rope or in Terranuova Bracciolini is focused on agriculture.
