THE SUBURB OF LUCCA THAT BINDS HIS STORY TO THE CRAFTSMANSHIP

Villa Basilica is one of the few places that was the scene of clashes the historic medieval battles. However, her story makes very charming this country that ties its fortunes to the Medici family. In the Middle Ages was one of the main production centres of swords, thanks to the historic Biscotti family that over time he specialized in production techniques more and more refined. Cosimo de' Medici, fascinated by the care of the swords of biscuits, decided to buy some prized pieces although it was developing gunpowder which soon would replace the weapon with guns.

 

Traditions and Typical products

Villa Basilica preserves the Customs and traditional recipes of Lucca. Just outside the village you can find eateries to enjoy a snack and a glass of Tuscan wine.

Crafts is a a distinctive feature of the territory. The iron works is proof, being the most ancient tradition. The other is that of wood, of which you can have trace through the pews of the Church of San Jacopo e Ginese, dating back to 1500.
