Sorano is an architectural jewel known as the Matera of Tuscany for its many rock buildings excavated in the Tuff. It is ideal for a trip outside of art and nature, to discover a corner of Maremma still little known, of the highest quality environmental and cultural where to experience an unforgettable experience.
Sorano is part of the Archaeological Park, where you can admire important Etruscan necropolis and several late ancient and medieval ruins that represent valuable evidence of its glorious past. The door below the city you can venture down the ancient paths, known as Vie Cave. Follow these paths, surrounded by more than twenty meters high tuff walls, has a fascination hard to describe.

The Via Cava di San Rocco, only way of communication between Sorano and Sovana until 1936, where you can admire the remains of the Etruscan necropolis of San Rocco.
The Via Cava di San Carlo, beautiful and little known, crossed by numerous Etruscan and medieval remains.
In Sorano, lies on a cliff of volcanic Tuff and surrounded by unspoiled nature, time seems to stand still. As you enter you can feel the authentic Tuscan culture of ancient tastes, crafts and colorful idioms and frank.
The first thing to do upon reaching the hamlet is getting lost among its charming alleys, the lodges open up spectacular views and admire the numerous medieval tower-houses, the stairways and the cellars dug in the Tuff. Come to the Orsini fortress, fortification built in 1552, which houses some important frescoes of the Sienese School of the 16th century, you can enjoy a unique view over the whole country.
Proceeding through the streets of the historic center are located in Piazza del Poggio, Masso Leopoldino, an integral part of the defensive system of Sorano along with the clock tower.
Before leaving worth stopping in one of the typical shops to enjoy Cialdino dei tufi, a circular pastry and crunchy prepared by hand, mixing just flour and sugar, anise, sweet wine.
