Poggio a Caiano

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE OF THE MEDICI VILLA, EMBELLISHED WITH ANDRÉ DEL SARTO AND BY PONTORMO

Poggio a Caiano is situated at the foot of Montalbano, the mountain range that stretches from Prato, Florence and Pistoia. Located in a flat area, stands out on other surrounding countries because that developed on the hillside which gave it its name.

The most notable attraction is the beautiful Villa Medicea, perhaps the finest erected by the Florentine family. Inside there are precious frescoes by Andrea del Sarto, including some celebrating the glories of Medici by Pontormo.

 

Traditions and Typical product

Some of the typical products of Montalbano, are obviously worn and proposed in the Cookbook of Poggio a Caiano, always careful to emphasize the products of their land toscano which prides itself. The "extra virgin olive oil DOP" and the "DOP chestnut" and are two of the excellence that the fairs of Poggio a Caiano highlight every year during the Piazza dei sapori & dei Saperi.

In the local cellars is possible to taste obviously the best DOC red wines and DOCG wines of Carmignano.
