AN IMPORTANT RURAL CENTRE
Monteroni developed near the ancient Via Francigena, one of the most famous roads that led to Rome. Its name comes from the location on Mount Roni, along the river Arbia. In the middle ages this area was the agricultural center of the Republic of Siena. The medieval windmill with fortified walls and Tower, dating back to 1300, testifies that thriving rural past. Today the building is the Town Hall. Even the monumental fortified farm of Cuna, built in 1224, recalls rural life that was. The complex is surrounded by defensive walls, consists of several buildings where there were farm families, by a courtyard and a chapel. Castello di San Fabiano was an important outpost since about 1100. Complete with Tower and turret, retains its former glory and its gardens are hosting exhibitions and events of various kinds.
