I Giorni di San Paolino in Lucca

Since 29 june - 20 july, much more than a religious holiday

In Lucca, for over 350 years is celebrated the I Giorni di San Paolino to commemorate the Patron Saint. A party that involves the whole city, with many initiatives this year are scheduled between 29 June and 20 July 2018.

For the occasion are organized meetings, shows with pageants, and through the streets of the city there are stalls with typical Tuscan products.

The aim is to rediscover the taste for tradition celebrating the miracle of San Paolino in company, between citizens and many tourists during the summer take by assault Lucca, the jewel of Tuscany surrounded by walls.

 

The feast commemorating the miracle of San Paolino

It is said that St Paulinus, Bishop of the city managed the miracle to save their people from an accident. The Saint intervened during his celebrations on 12 July 1664, saving a group of faithful who stood in the piazza di San Donato when one of the guns that were supposed to shoot blanks fired a series of shots on people Let nobody remain seriously injured.

The exploits of the Saint are depicted in a striking oil painting conserved in the church dedicated to him in Lucca.

 

Solemn moments
