Historical activity of Campo nell'Elba

The long tradition of Campo nell'Elba is sculpted in granite that for centuries the inhabitants of the land they work.

The activity in the large cave was first introduced by the Romans and by the Pisans then and continues until 1348 when stopping because of the plague. The activity begins again later with the manufacture of products for the local market.

From the second half of the 800 due to the characteristics of granite from Elba, particularly resistant to compression and therefore suitable for paving, you begin to acquire orders even from the continent.

It was 1937, in full fascist regime, when twenty stonemasons are formed into a production cooperative, comes the Corridoni that formise  over the years to  Marina di Campo to transform from a rural reality to a worker reality and making granite processing one of the hallmarks of the productions of the island of Elba.
