The ice cream is Made in Tuscany

The stages that led to the birth of the most consumed dessert of the summer

Perhaps not everyone knows that ice cream has Italian origins indeed Tuscan. It was the 16th century when the family of Medici organized a competition for the most unique dish, whose competition there were the great chefs of Tuscany.

Among the competitors showed up even a simple poulterer, Ruggeri, Cook for pleasure, which prepared the reworking of an old recipe which he called as "sweet and perfumed water" that allowed him to win the race.

During the wedding feast of Catherine de ' Medici and the Duke of Orléans held in Marseilles, Ruggeri made known to the French, the forerunner of the modern ice cream that actually was more like sorbet.

The cream of this humble poulterer was an unexpected success, so much to push Ruggeri to leave the Court of France to return to his simple life, but not before giving a gift to Catherine the coveted recipe.

Will be Bernardo Buontalenti, architect, sculptor and painter to rework the recipe of "little trick ice cream" on the occasion of an official visit of the Spanish Crown to that of Florence. The ingredients of Ruggeri added a mixture of milk, honey, egg yolk and a drop of wine who worked with a rotating spatula he invented, the first rudimentary ice cream maker.

The ice cream that was born, with a unique taste, you can find it still today in some ice cream in the Centre of Florence with the name of his genius inventor "Buontalenti".
