CAPITAL OF "CHIANTISHIRE", A DIP IN CHIANTI CLASSICO

The municipality of Radda in Chianti is located on the hills that divide the Valley of Arbia from Val di Pesa and is entirely included in the Chianti Classico area, the original production area of Chianti wine.

The first settlements in the area are very old, dating back to 2000 a.C. According to documents found as early as 1100 Radda is the most populated and important in the area. In the mid-1200 was recognized as the capital of Lega del Chianti, which included along with Castellina and Gaiole. With typical medieval aspect, the village of Radda in Chianti was enclosed within defensive walls still visible today in the great gate of the country and in the characteristic Palazzo del Podestà, the current Town Hall.

Traditions and typical products

In addition to Chianti Classico, main dish of the area is “ribollita“, poor peasant culture dish, rich in flavor and with a large variety of ingredients. A "recovery" in which are recycled leftovers and that allows you to not waste the stale bread but rather turn it into the main ingredient along with beans and black cabbage.
