THE HOUSE OF THE PAINTER MACCHIAIOLO CRISTIANO BANTI

Montemurlo is positioned halfway between Prato and Pistoia, in the frame of the Bisenzio Valley that extend up to the Appennino tosco-emiliano.

The first records of the town date back to 1019, but its origins date back to Roman times. The main historical events revolve around the famous battle of Montemurlo of 1537. On this occasion the troops of Cosimo I de ' Medici defeated Filippo Strozzi and his soldiers, enemies of Florentine family.

Montemurlo deserves to be discovered through a pedestrian tour. The best opportunity to immerse themselves in the streets surrounded by nature and to discover the ancient Fortrezza and the Villa del Barone where he lived Cristiano Banti, one of the greatest exponents of the Tuscan Macchiaioli.

Traditions and typical products

In Montemurlo you can find all the typical dishes of Valle del Bisenzio. The local speciality is l'olive oil, produced directly in the local mills and ideal as a sauce or to taste the tasty tuscan bread.
