THE CHESTNUT CENTRE IN TUSCANY
Located between the Val di Cecina and Val di Cornia, the village became an important economic Center for the privileges that had the bishopric before the year 1000. Thanks to the support of Volterra, medieval wars between the Tuscan families, Carlyn became one of the richest municipalities in the area.
Trace of its history remains in some Romanesque churches such as the Chiesa di San Rocco, which preserves the Presentazione di Gesù al Tempio of 1597, by Cosimo Daddi.
In the surrounding forests, making Castelnuovo one of the major centers of the chestnut in Tuscany, overlooking the remains of two bridges: The Bridge of Defizio carrying water in the city center and the high bridge which supplied by water mills at the entrance to the village.
Traditions and Typical products
Chestnut cultivation Center, around this product has developed a craftsmanship that has perfected the manufacture to produce flour for polenta or sweet.
