The battle of Scannagallo (also known in history as the battle of Marciano) took place in the heart of the Crown of the Grand Duchy to Cosimo I de ' Medici. This event was mentioned in the novel "hell" by the internationally renowned writer Dan Brown.

The battle took place on 2 August 1554 in Foiano della Chiana, to be exact in Santaluce and Pozzo della Chiana and saw the triumph of Florence (allied with Spain and with the Papal States) for Siena (led by Piero Strozzi and allied with France). Only the throttle together with Colonel Bentivoglio continued resistance to Montalcino, Siena, exiles until finalized in 1559.

These favorable events laid the Foundation for expanding the domain of Florence to Tuscany wearing Cosimo I de'Medici to be appointed by Pope Pius V first Grand Duke of Tuscany. This was the birth of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, which was followed by about 300 years of peace.

Bio Agriturismo La Spiga d'Oro is located in the area of the battle of Marciano. Since 2003 this company is run by Giancarlo Cencini which knew how to cleverly convert the business into Bio Farm House, introducing organic farming methods with the aim of increasing the wealth of biodiversity. These specific features have been observed and studied by landscape architect Elisabetta Renna that gave birth to the initiative for the adoption of biodiversity.

In addition, Giancarlo Cencini underlined the cultural importance of this area by acquiring exclusive commercial rights of prints of "The battle of Marciano" the mathematician Carlo Franzoso said Agathos.
