Lucchesia, a land of vast landscapes of plain typical of the countryside surrounding Lucca. Its green expanse with historic parks, ancient villas and montana, make this place a real natural beauty. From historic extend rich lands, home of pretty villages and productive activities that enhance the entire area.

 

FROM THE INTERLACEMENT AMONG MIDDLE AGES AND RENAISSANCE, TO THE CHARM OF THE THERMAL WATERS

The Lucchesia is traditionally a territory with strong agricultural vocation, since the Etruscan settlement her lands were intended for cultivation. Given its strategic location was gradually urbanized in Roman and later through the establishment of the Duchy of Lucca, developed in the middle ages a large network of businesses that brought the city to become the main centre of the local watchmakers.

Its area of about 1011.93 km ² makes Lucchesia agricultural municipalities largest in Italy, where you can see still today beautiful villas in the seventeenth century, Romanesque churches, villages with charming medieval streets and squares full of Renaissance buildings. Impossible not to stop at Bagni di Lucca, dating from the 1st century BC and known for the beneficial effects of its thermal waters, and at Lucca Comics, dedicated to comics and games, which takes place every year in October and November, first in Europe and second in the world and participants.

Typical produkte

The Lucchesia is known for its high level quality olive oil which is one of the largest exporters in the world. This product of excellence can be tasted in the oil mills and farms in the lush countryside trying the garlic bread, bread that is toasted and seasoned with salt and oil.

Inside, the villages, are dotted of many wine shops and wine cellars where you can taste the wine made from the hills of Lucca, Porcari and Montecarlo, DOC production areas.

Some of the top wines of Lucca:

  • The Sangiovese wine, a red wine refined aromas and flavour
  • Vin Santo, a harmonious and sweet-smelling amber raisin
  • The Vermentino wine, fresh white wine with notes of citrus

Towns in Lucchesia are: Altopascio, Capannori, Lucca (provincial capital), Montecarlo, Porcari and Villa Basilica.
