The village of Barberino di Mugello was born as Center only in the Middle Ages. His period of greatest splendor was during the rule of the Medici around 1500; in the locality of Cafaggiolo, in fact, you can visit the villa medicea di Cafaggiolo, inserted in 2013 like the "World Heritage" by UNESCO. The building that was built by the Medici family as a country residence, conserves many original furnishings of the period.

 

Traditions

The processing of leather has ancient roots in the area and dates back to the era of doctors. At that time Mugello and was one of the biggest producers in particular Barberino in footwear. Ancient tradition also has the art of embroidery; Barberino di Mugello and the hamlets of Cavallina and Galliano are the places where the counted thread embroidery.

 

Typical products

Barberino Mugello area, of which it is part, maintains its vocation for cattle, sheep and pigs. Bovine milk here collected due to its provenance, allowed the production of a high quality milk called "selecting Mugello". The territory is also the breeding place for the "Fiorentina": here the bistecca born in top quality.
